Due to historic dry conditions in the San Diego area and court-ordered reductions in water deliveries from the Sacramento River/San Joaquin River Delta in Norther California (as a response to the endangered fish species including the Delta Smelt), our county has issued a Phase 1 for voluntary water conservation by residences and businesses.
These water supply shortages may result in further mandatory water use restrictions starting early 2008 so start conserving now!
Here are some easy ideas for conserving water in your on-campus res halls, apartments, and off-campus housing:
*only run the dishwasher when full (saves approx. 2-4.5 gallons of water per load)
*Turn off water while scrubbing dishes (saves approx 2.5 gallons of water per minute)
*Turn off water while brushing your teeth (saves approx. 2 gallons per minute)
*Shorten showers (saves approx. 2.5 gallons per minute)
*Fill the bathtub half full while bathing (saves approx. 15-25 gallons per bath)
*Don't use the toilet as a waste basket (saves approx. 1.6 gallons per flush)
*Wash only full loads of clothes (saves approx. 15-50 gallons per load)
